About Me
Sheila Cruse - MSc Assessment and Treatment of Sex Offenders, PG Dip Counselling.
Registered Provisional Member of NZAC
I have been working in a therapeutic capacity since 2011, helping people to become the best they can be. This work has involved both individual therapy and group work. I have worked for the last 7 years within a therapeutic community which focuses on change in many aspects of a persons life. I have also facilitated support groups for people with specific issues within the general community.

I have treated men and women with problematic sexual behaviour since 2000 and have been involved with individual therapy and treatment programmes focused on problematic sexual thoughts and behaviours since 2011.

I have experience working therapeutically one-on-one with people suffering from issues with difficult emotions such as anger, anxiety, depression, unresolved grief, as well as gender, sexual issues, relationship and family issues. I have worked with people who are struggling to deal with whatever life throws at them, day to day.
Life can be overwhelming at times, and I have seen that having even one or two sessions with me can offer perspective and helps people to cope and get back on track. Sometimes just being given time to talk to someone is all you need.
Collaborative Approach
Support That Makes a Difference

Theraputic Approach
I offer counselling in a safe space with a warm, friendly approach to individuals to work through their difficulties and issues in their lives and to modify the way that they think, feel and act. I aim to help clients to manage their emotions better and I can help you to develop better coping strategies to live a better life, drawing on your own experiences and resources. I believe that you can unlock your own potential and use the strengths that you have, to assist with this. I like to work collaboratively with clients, making them the experts in their own lives.

Modalities
I use proven effective methods including Narrative therapy, CBT and mindfulness and I believe that each client is an individual and that counselling should be client focussed and tailored to the individual needs of the client. I also incorporate ACT and Solution Focussed Brief therapy and Response based therapy into my work.

Presenting Issues
I will ask about what has brought you to see me to help me to understand your situation better to gain context for your visit. Together, after obtaining some details of your history, we will plan your treatment and work at a pace that helps you to find the answers that you need.
